The Client

The Social Studies & History Education in the Anthropocene Network (SSHEAN) is on a mission to reimagine how humans learn about, engage with and relate to the natural environment. Through educational initiatives, SSHEAN seeks to draw attention to the climate crisis by inspiring young people to think creatively about our relationship to our non-human surroundings and equipping them with the resources necessary to face the unique challenges that confront us.

Our Approach

The branding strategy for SSHEAN sought to blend the rigor of the academy with contemporary expressiveness. The logo, a hand-drawn representation of the chanterelle mushroom spore print, symbolically captures the interwoven complexity of both mycelial and human connectivity. The mushroom itself, unique to the old-growth forests of North America, honors resilience and adaptation while drawing attention to the threats facing such delicate life forms today. Photo direction seeks to inspire change by zooming out the lens on human manipulation of the natural environment.
